Clockwise from top left: Alexa Meade, Cecilia Paredes, Trina Merry, Liu Bolin As contemporary artists push themselves to explore deeper levels of creativity, it’s not unusual to find interesting art mediums beyond the standard canvas. Since the 1960s, artists have increasingly explored the use of the human body as a vehicle for expression. And while body art is often thought of as a type of performance art, using the body for creative purposes occurs well before Marina Abramovic or Dennis Oppenheim carried out their performances. Wrap up for the Camberwell Rotary Art Show – this is why I love supporting this massive voluntary creative effort. 1330 artworks were chosen and hung in one day. Imagine the Curator’s task of wading through nearly for times that many online on @gallery247 to arrive at the final selection. Painting sales topped $400,000 and 4,000 visitors attended over the 10 days of the exhibition, making this the largest in Australia. Rotary Club of Camberwell raised $140,000 to distribute to worthy local and international projects. And all this was done by volunteers who love art and community involvement. Was a…
